The Canal du Midi is the most famous canal in the world and is now a UNESCO world heritage site. Linking the Atlantic to the Mediterranean the canal runs through beautiful hills in the shadow of the Pyrenees. It then passes tantalizingly close to the Mediterranean in the Camargue before meeting the Rhone. On the Midi there are many hidden treasures, regional cuisines and local wines to discover.
Midi - Capestang
Our base at Capestang is on the ‘Grand Bief’ a 54km lock free section of canal which follows the contours of the land, winding through ancient villages and passing numerous vineyards.
All along the Midi you are shadowed by mighty plane trees which protect you from the Mediterranean sun.
There are many ancient villages & places of interest to visit and a cruise to the spectacular Medieval Cité of Carcassonne is a delight.
New for 2012 is the possibility of the one way cruise between Capestang and Port Lauragais. Port Lauragais is between Toulouse and Castelnaudary and this cruise via Carcassonne takes in the best the Midi has to offer.
